"Believe it or not..."

Touchstone bought the film rights to the TV show The Greatest American Hero. Can you hear that theme song playing in your head? Well, someone over at Disney can... And to think of all the great unproduced scripts that pave the sidewalks in this town. Ouch.

Smith Sticks it to ABC

Regarding his upcoming Clerks animated series, director Kevin Smith blasts the ABC network for scheduling the show in May. (Considered a dead period in the TV biz.) Gotta love a director who posts messages like: "I can't
believe we got fucked hard by the mouse twice in the span of a year.
Fucking suits, man. I don't know why I bother..."

Hitler or Homer?

Wow. I can't believe how spooky and accurate the Guess the Dictator/Sitcom Character program is. It even figured out the comic book shop owner from The Simpsons. (via Rebecca's Pocket)

Larry Sanders as Fox Mulder?

I've never been a big fan of The X-Files (although I did enjoy last week's "X-Cops" episode), but who could resist this premise: Gary Shandling will appear in an upcoming episode of The X-Files playing the character of Fox Mulder in the movie-version within the show of "The X-Files"... Got that? Better yet, Duchovny's wife, Tea Leoni appears as Scully... I wonder if they'll be any references to the hilarious "David's Crush on Larry" storyline from David's numerous appearances on The Larry Sanders Show.

Spielberg: No to Potter

Steven Spielberg passed on the Harry Potter film. Looks like the press leak from Warner Bros. a few weeks ago didn't pay off.

Jackie Chan... Do you... uh... Yahoo?

Well, I don't know if this will stop the movie pirates, but Yahoo just announced a deal to release a sizeable number of Hong Kong films (including those of Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan) online via the Yahoo website portal. Course, you won't be seeing one of Jackie Chan's best films, Drunken Master 2, as Miramax has been sitting on the US domestic release of that film for some time. (via Slashdot)

Who Wants to Cancel a Millionaire?

The FOX network, that's who... Thanks to The Smoking Gun website, even less flattering details about Rick Rockwell (the millionaire of the FOX TV show, Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire?) have emerged. In response, FOX has cancelled the Tuesday night rebroadcast of the special. This story keeps getting better and better...

Those pesky Mutants...

No, this site isn't talking about California's Prop 22. Although, it does sound like a Pro Prop 22 site, doesn't it? Anyway, the mutant site is part of that post-Blair Witch "let's create a mythos" style of web promotion for this film. (via Pith and Vinegar)

Redesign Hell

Pardon the mess... Experimenting with site re-design... Boy does it suck trying to maintain a look across Netscape/Internet Explorer and Windoze/Mac... Plus I've never used CSS before in HTML. Would appreciate any feedback. And in case you were wondering, ideally, you are looking at this site in Internet Explorer 5.0 (Mac or PC).

Who Wants to Marry a Comedian?

Fresh on the heals of FOX's ratings grabber, Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire? (which the network will re-run next week), comes word that said milionaire isn't all he claimed to be. (For example, he could be speaking at your next pot-luck dinner for the right price.)

Stickin' it to The Man: DVD edition

I just bought this DVD player to go with this DVD player I already own. Gotta love those players that allow you to turn off region coding and Macrovision copy-protection. (Especially the APEX, which will play a CD-R full of MP3 files.) Thanks to my girlfriend, I'll be trying out this place for DVDs. Goodbye Blockbuster. Course, I probably won't be renting, copying, or owning this on DVD anytime soon. Maybe I'll get my friend Jason to pick up a copy of this bootleg next time he visits China.

Uncanny Trailer

We finally get a look at those ever-so-popular mutants (and Jean-Luc Picard... er I mean, Professor X) in the trailer for X-MEN. Hope they fix Storm's wig in time for the release.

Blame Canada Performance?

So the first thing that crossed your mind when you heard that the song "BLAME CANADA" from the film SOUTH PARK was nominated for an Oscar? How will they perform it? All nominees for Best Song are performed live during the Academy Awards telecast. How will they recreate the animated parents of South Park singing about the source of their towns problems? (Including a mother voicing her dismay that her child used the word "Fuck"?) Should be interesting.

Blame Canada

The nominees for the Academy Awards were announced this morning. I haven't seen ANY of the nominated films/performances - which is really sad since I work in the film industry. Well, I did see the most suprising and well-deserved nomination, South Park's nominated best song, Blame Canada.

No on Knight

Here in California, the big news is Prop 22 - the Mormon financed proposition banning any future efforts to legalize same-sex marriages in the state of California. It's what I call a "phantom" piece of legislation, in that it isn't addressing any current or planned state laws that what allow gay couples to have marriage rights. More of a preemptive strike. You know it must be worth defeating if radio talkshow host Dr. Laura supports it. Many argue that it protects the "moral, historical, and religious" aspects of the "sacred" institution of marriage. They claim that same-sex marriage rights would cheapen, disgrace, and embarass the idea of marriage. That reminds me, did anyone catch Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire? on FOX tonight? :)

A disturbance...

in the Force? In a very rare turn, Lucasfilm is using it's official starwars.com website to debunk all the casting rumors (including the stereotype one that I mentioned earlier) with regards to Episode II. Obviously George was REALLY bothered by the stereotype criticisms.

Tom and Monica?

Tom Green (of MTV's THE TOM GREEN SHOW) and Monica Lewinsky an item? According to MTV, they'll be a press conference today (Friday). Certainly has to be a typical Green prank... and it's just before Valetine's Day. Could be interesting... or very scary.

"Meesa Stereotype?"

Well, I never really thought that Jar-Jar was a gay Rastafarian, but apparently a lot of other people did. (I think it's far too easy to find stereotypes when you go out looking for them.) Regardless, the next installment of STAR WARS should be nice and culturally diverse... A intergalatic Bennetton Ad if you will...

Backstage at the LATE SHOW

All this week, THE LATE SHOW with David Letterman will be interviewing favorite guests talking about their past appearances with Dave. It may sound a bit of a stretch, but after to seeing Charles Grodin talk with Julia Roberts, I think it works surprisingly well.

Super "whassuuup?"

Well, it's nice to see everyone jumping on the "whassuuup?" bandwagon. It's also nice to be at the front of a weblog topic trend, rather than a late comer... :) Regardless, Camworld adds to the fray by pointing to the SUPERFRIENDS version of the Budweiser "whassuuup?" commercial. (Although he incorrectly identified the "call waiting" version as the original - see Jan. 30th post for all your "whassuuup?" needs. )

Round One

The New York Times film critic decided to remove the film THE HURRICANE from his Top Ten list in response to growing criticisms regarding the facts portrayed (or not) in the Denzel Washington film. Today, the producers fired back via the film's official site. Will this hurt the film's Oscar chances?
