Eyes Wide Shut
Always wondered how extensive the "digitally inserted figures" were on the US version of EYES WIDE SHUT. Now I know. Looks like a Friday night on Cinemax to me. What's all the fuss?

The Dark Side
Much as I hate to admit it, if you're on a Mac, you really need to give in to the dark side and download the just released Internet Explorer 5.0. (Along with the updated Outlook Express.)
I'm the first to piss on anything associated with Micro$oft, but they really are winning the browser war. Netscape becomes less and less of an option as time goes on. (Thank you AOL.)
The most important feature of IE 5.0 for the Mac is the 96dpi screen rendering to bring the Mac display in line with the majority of the Windoze world. No more unreadable font sizes (including this weblog).

Oscars
Too long, as everyone knows... The sets looked weird and/or cheap... Peter Coyote was a good idea, but did he have to stand at the news desk/gift shop set in the back, ready to give the scores and weather and/or hand out Oscars off the shelf behind him? Robin Williams singing Blame Canada was a highlight, although it seemed like his voice wasn't up to it that evening. American Beauty sweeped - guess I really need to get out there and see it.

Disney Code
I had a friend in college who worked at Walt Disney World Orlando. She gave me a bit of info on the many "codes" the employees had to follow. For example, the park employees are not allowed to point with a single finger, say, when directing a lost tourist. "Yes, the Captain Eo attraction is over... there" (gesturing with an open hand). There used to be a ban on facial hair, but apparently that is changing.

West Memphis Three
Several years ago, while working at a film ad agency, I worked on the poster for the HBO documentary Paradise Lost - the film was about the trial of three young teenagers accused of murdering three young boys in a ritualistic (read: satanic) fashion.
One of my co-workers, Kathy became interested in their story (and the many injustices and problems with the case), and got several of her friends involved.
Fast forward to the present, and the sequel, Paradise Lost II is running on HBO this month. (Which, ironically enough, I also worked on the key art for, at a different ad agency.) The film covers the reactions to the first film, including the "Free the West Memphis Three" support group, run by my former co-worker Kathy and her friends. Their efforts and involvement in the case are featured throughout the film. You can find their website here.
It's amazing for me to think back to Kathy's involvement in the case from the beginning, and through the years, and now have her actually BECOME part of the story via the new documentary.

Who? Me?
OneSwellFoop denies any involvement in the Oscar statue theft... Doesn't he know that nothing exciting, especially Academy Award theft, happens in North Hollywood, CA? (Oh wait, I live in North Hollywood too.)
As for "redirects of suspicion" by OneSwellFoop and wetlog pointing the way to this site and Hollywood Tattler... Um... I think Jim Carrey did it.

Oscar "Doh!" Part 2
First, they lost the ballots. Now comes word that the Oscar statues themselves have been stolen. It's going to be an interesting ceremony... At least Billy Crystal already has material.

Ugh.
Well, still having troubles with Groksoup... I hope it gets worked out... For some reason, a server side (not my side) hard drive problem caused all kinds of problems, including screwing up the HTML code... Not sure why. (In fact, if you're using Netscape, you're most likely seeing a blank green screen right now.) I may have to move things over to Blogger...

"Jones!?!"
Everyone seems to have forgotten that this rumor first appeared on The Digital Bits this past December. Yes, the Indy laserdiscs got cancelled. No, there won't be any Indiana Jones DVDs as a "surprise" in 2-3 months. No Indy on DVD anytime soon... And no STAR WARS on DVD either. George Lucas hates your DVD player, and don't forget it. :)

Weblog Webrings
Well, I have no problem joining not one, but two webrings (webloggers and linksluts - both for bloggers - see left menubar.) Anything to increase traffic, since I only know of 2-3 people who read this blog.
It's nice to see I have a friendly neighbor next to me via the webloggers ring.

MI-2
Now that ShoWest has ended, there should be lots of new trailers popping up on the Net in the coming weeks. First up, the second trailer for MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 2. Looks good - can't go wrong with a John Woo film. (Hey, even Hard Target was a fun bad movie.)

Prop 22 Bullshit
Proposition 22 passed in California today. All those people "behind the Orange Curtain" in Orange county can go to sleep peacefully tonight, with the knowledge that they protected the state from gay people getting hitched.
(Oh wait, the proposition didn't change anything - it'll be decided, at some point, by the courts.)
It's amazing that Senator Pete Knight, a homophobic father estranged from his gay son (and had a gay brother who died of AIDS), can get such a hateful and useless measure on the ballot in the state of California.
Worse still, it amazes me that it passed.
Having grown up in Alabama, it's much easier to see examples of bigotry, even to this day. But I had to move to California to actually see it on a state ballot up for vote.

Disney Sticks it to Kevin
Well, Kevin Smith continues to make it public his unhappiness with ABC/Disney with regards to his CLERKS animated series. (See previous post on this.)
This time, he responds to an "internal memo" that went around the Disney lot. When will people learn there's no such thing as "internal memos" in this day and age. Anything interesting will always end up just a click away for millions to read on the Net.

Holy Chicken?
As someone who grew up in Alabama, I've known this for a while, but for the rest of you: According to this fast food chain, God doesn't want you to have a chicken sandwich on Sunday... Or wear an earring if you're a guy... Or be gay... (Sigh) Why do stories like this have to come from my home state? (via lots of co via hit-or-miss)

Signs a TV Sitcom is Ending...
For the third time in a single season, the TV show FRIENDS is falling back on that most-sacred of ratings boosters - "stunt casting"... Bruce Willis will appear on the show for three episodes just in time for May sweeps. He follows Elle Macpherson and Reese Witherspoon - both of whom guest starred earlier this past season. Wonder how the cast contract talks are going?

They're finally ready to cast Lara Croft in the upcoming TOMB RAIDER film. Oscar-nominated Angelina Jolie is about to sign on as the buxom Croft. Let's just hope the film turns out better than the Tomb Raider rip-off TV series, Relic Hunter.

Domain Name Madness
The owner of allen.com told me he wanted 7 million dollars for his domain name... (I don't think he was trying to be funny.) He was under the mistaken impression that some domains sell in the 1-3 million dollar range, so he might come down to 3 million. If I'm not mistaken, the highest paid for a domain name was the 1 million dollar sale of wallstreet.com. Seems to me that the domain "allen.com" just doesn't hold the value of "wallstreet.com". So instead I bought movieposterdesign.com to forward to my (real) site, onesheetdesign.com - wanted to grab it before someone else does. I wonder if I should get either of the domains appraised?
