There's an interesting online article over at Apple.com about the digital restoration of films using Macs, including the clean-up work on the films in the recently released Advertures of Indiana Jones DVD box set. Film restorationist John Lowry's company (Lowry Digital Images) uses 400 Macs (including 100 Dual G5s!) and proprietary software to remove millions of pieces of dirt, scratches, and other signs of damage from motion pictures. And here we thought they did all by hand in Adobe Photoshop. Makes for an interesting read on reviving classic films from the deteriorations of time.
